Tourism participation by age group in the Netherlands

In 2018, outbound tourism attracted the largest share of travelers across all age groups in Netherlands, with over 40 percent of participants in each age group between 15 to 64 years old stating that they undertook this type of travel. Among 45 to 54 year olds, more people stated they had used both domestic and outbound travel than those who stated they had only used domestic travel.

The source adds the following information: "This collection covers national tourism. Data is collected by the competent national authorities of the Member States and is compiled according to a harmonised methodology established by EU regulations before transmission to Eurostat.
Most of the time, data on domestic and outbound trips (where "outbound tourism" means residents of a country travelling in another country) is collected via sample surveys. However, in a few cases the data are compiled from border surveys. Surveys are generally conducted on a monthly or quarterly basis."
