According to a survey conducted in South Korea in 2019, around half of the respondents said they pursue their hobbies or self-improvement activities for self-improvement, to increase their own skills or abilities. Around 37 percent said it was because these activities were fun, while around 35% each said it was because they wanted to learn new things, or they wanted to find or have hobbies. Other top reasons were for their own mental or physical health, or to acquire additonal income or prepare for retirement.
