In 2020, Southern Italian provinces recorded the highest number of complaints of mafia organizations in Italy compared to the rest of the country. More specifically, Reggio Calabria ranked first with two complaints every 100 thousand inhabitants, while Vibo Valentia registered 1.9 complaints per 100 thousand inhabitants.
In the last years, the number of mafia-type associations experienced a decrease in Italy. However, still dozens of organizations are known in the country.
