Due to an aging population, blood shortage is a constant medical issue in Hong Kong. In 2022, there were around 108,000 men donating blood to the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service. The organization operates eleven donor centers collecting blood and hematopoietic stem cells. The blood supply of the local hospitals in Hong Kong relies solely on the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service.
