At the end of fiscal year 2019, the return on equity of Ashok Leyland was about 24 percent. This was projected to reduce to about 16 percent by fiscal year 2021. The company was the second largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India and the fourth largest bus manufacturer worldwide. It became the first Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer to get the certification of the latest emission standards (to be implemented in April 2020) for its full range of heavy duty trucks.
