Only nine percent of Russians admitted to always pay for licensed content online, according to survey findings in September 2019. The most "hacked" type of internet media across the country were games, which were illegally downloaded by 52 percent of respondents. Almost every fifth poll participant installed software from illegal websites. In 2018, Russia was the second leading country in the world by number of visits to media piracy sites.
