Capgemini Research Institute. On average, consumers would be willing to spend 11.5 percent over and above their current budget for cars for a self-driving car, and one fourth of respondents said they would refuse to pay a premium.
On average, drivers younger than 36 years of age would be willing to increase their vehicle budget by 15 percent in order to pay for a self-driving car. This makes them the most willing age cohort interviewed to pay a premium for self-driving cars, although members of the Millennial and Gen Z cohorts typically have smaller budgets for their vehicles compared to drivers who are slightly older.
