In 2019, just over half of respondents taking part in this survey stated to consider the environment an important factor when purchasing fresh food products. This was a slight decrease in comparison to the previous year, but an increase compared to 2014. According to this survey, animal welfare was the criterium most widely taken into account by Belgians when doing groceries. Other important criteria included fair trade and country of origin.
