Over the observed period, the majority of Russia’s oil production was located in the Ural federal district, where nearly 303 million metric tons were produced in 2017, a slight decrease compared to the previous year. The administrative division with the second largest oil production volume was the Volga federal district with over 117 million metric tons. In terms of geographical regions, the Ural federal district is located in the West Siberian region of Russia, which was the leading oil producing region in the country, measuring at nearly 314 million metric tons in 2017.
