The largest share of trips within the capital of Russia in 2018 were made by using rail transport, with 39 percent of residents taking subway from the Moscow Central Circle or suburban trains. The second most popular mode of transport was city ground public transportation. The trend to refrain from trips on personal cars or taxi could be explained by time-consuming traffic jams in the city, since the Moscow Oblast is one of the most congested areas worldwide. Car sharing journeys accounted for less than one percent of the total. In total, under 12 thousand car sharing vehicles were recorded in the city as of September 2018.
