In a survey conducted in Australia in 2019, regarding whether or not their children sat in the front seat of a car, 34 percent of respondents stated that their children sat in the front seat some of the time. Contrastingly, only three percent of respondents stated that their children always sat in the front seat of the car. It is safer for children under 12 years old to sit in the back of the car. In Australia it is only legal for children aged four to seven years old to sit in the front seat of the car, if all of the back seats of the car are being occupied by other children under seven years old.

*Respondents were either parents or caregivers to children aged between one month and 13 years. Respondents gave data on 2,743 children in total, however, only 1,324 children aged 7 to 12 years were relevant for this question.
