As any sensitive subject, talks about immigration face misunderstandings and myths. One of these concerns the work sector. For some, immigrants take jobs away from real nationals, and especially when jobs are scarce. According to this Ipsos survey, this statement was quite well shared in Belgium.
In 2019, one out of two respondents in Belgium believed employers should prioritize nationals over immigrants. 22 percent of them neither agreed nor disagreed with this. One out of five people did not believe in such a statement, yet without rejecting it. Furthermore, a quarter of respondents disagreed with the need for employers to prioritize nationals.
Immigration has always been part of human history. However, it is still one of society's most controversial topics. Many European countries try to regulate this phenomenon. Nowadays, most migrations relate to the economy, yet environmental migration is a growing concern.
