In a survey on the state of happiness in Australia conducted by Ipsos in 2019, around 44 percent of respondents stated that being forgiven gave them or could give them some happiness. Globally, 38 percent of adults reported the same during the survey period.

Respondents were asked to complete the following: "Being forgiven for something I did - Does or could give me greatest happiness, does or could give me some happiness, doesn't or couldn't make me happy or happier, does not apply to me".
