According to a survey conducted in Japan in January 2023, about eight percent of respondents in Japan aged between 18 to 19 years stated that they had attended dance performances of street dance, jazz dance, folk dance, or social dance within the last year. When classified according to gender, female respondents had a higher tendency to attend ballet, modern dance, or contemporary dance performances.
