With the advancement of technology, questions regarding the use of artificial intelligence and facial recognition are rising. Even more so when the use of such technology is considered in a political setting. According to this 2019 Ipsos survey, the use of AI and facial recognition is a controversial subject in Belgium.
Two-thirds of Belgians taking part in this survey support their use, but only under certain circumstances and their use being subject to strict regulations. 19 percent say it should be allowed as much as needed, even at the risk of interfering with citizen's privacy.
However, 16 percent of respondents disapprove of the government's use of these technologies. In Belgium, privacy concerns were, therefore, limiting their acceptance. The use of artificial intelligence and face recognition is yet to be delimited.
