According to a survey conducted in 2020 by Ipsos on global levels of happiness, around 22 percent of South Korean respondents stated that their friends did or could give them greatest happiness. Overall, around 82 percent of all surveyed South Koreans said they were a source of happiness.

The question asked was as follows: "My friends does or could give me greatest happiness, does or could give me some happiness, doesn't or couldn't make me happy or happier, does not apply to me."
