By 2024, the Federal Agency on Atomic Energy of Russia (Rosatom) aimed to increase the volume of cargo transported through the Northern Sea Route to 92.6 million metric tons. Liquefied natural gas and gas condensate were expected to be the major type of freight to be shipped in that year, with their quantity measured at 41 million metric tons. Moreover, shipping volumes of 23 million metric tons of coal and over 17 million metric tons of oil were planned.
