According to a survey in Malaysia conducted in December 2018, 78 percent of respondents stated that quality was the most important factor when choosing a savory snack product in the supermarket. By comparison, 39 percent of respondents stated that the brand of the product was an important factor to them. Malaysia has one of the highest rates of obesity in Asia, and the government has taken measures to curb this problem such as introducing a sugar tax.
