Value of performing loans of Intesa Sanpaolo 2010-H1 2018

In the first half of 2018, Intesa Sanpaolo's loans reached a value of over 171 billion euros. Over this period, Intesa Sanpaolo was the leading bank in Italy in terms of value of performing loans. This represented the highest value throughout the period considered in the graph. On the other hand, an all-time low was reached in 2014, when the value of performing loans reported by Intesa Sanpaolo reached approximately 136 billion euros.

Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit: Italian banking giants

The only bank in Italy that can compete with Intesa Sanpaolo is UniCredit. The bank, with headquarters in Milan, was second in the ranking mentioned above for value of performing loans but reported higher figures in the past years. Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit are the leading Italian banks in terms of brand value. Intesa Sanpaolo’s brand value was estimated at 5.1 billion dollars, which represented an increase of approximately 12 percent compared to the previous year, while UniCredit lost 30 percent in terms of brand value.

Established in 2007 after the merger between Banca Intesa and Gruppo Sanpaolo IMI, the newly formed bank Intesa Sanpaolo is currently the largest bank in Italy and one of the leading banks in Europe.
