Share of the population holding financial loans grew across Russia over the past years. As of September 2019, roughly 45 percent of survey respondents stated that either themselves or their family members had funds credited from financial institutions, which was 10 percent higher than the figures in 2016.
Indebtedness level of Russian society from November 2016 to September 2019*
* The original survey question stated the following: "Today, do you personally or other members of your family have any kind of bank, consumer loan or a loan from a microfinance organization for which you still need to pay money, or are there no loans?"
The study was carried out in 105 settlements across 55 federal subjects of Russia.
Statistical error does not exceed 3.3%.
