The production volume of finished steel by private sector companies in India at the end of fiscal year 2018 accounted for over 108 million metric tons, corresponding to a share of 86 percent of the total finished steel production. This production volume was estimated to further increase to 113 million metric tons in fiscal year 2019. India was the world's second largest steel producing nation in the year 2018.
