Trust in government agencies in Indonesia during Joko Widodo's presidency 2016-2019

As of August 2019, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Indonesia was the state institution with the highest level of trust among the respondents. During Joko Widodo's presidency, trust in state institutions, especially the police, increased significantly. Joko Widodo ran for president on a campaign promising to fight corruption in Indonesia.

However, on 17 September 2019, the People's Representative Council (DPR) passed a bill revising Law No.30/2002, which pertains to a weakening of the KPK's authority to investigate corruption cases. A series of mass demonstrations led by students occurred in major cities of Indonesia on 23 September 2019 to object against this proposed revision, as well as several bills. The protests have since developed into the largest student movement in Indonesia since the 1998 demonstrations that brought down the Suharto regime.
