The electric arc furnace (EAF) process route produced approximately 29 million metric tons of crude steel, a share of around 23.2 percent of the total crude steel production in India at the end of 2022. The production volume using the EAF process route decreased in 2020, mainly due to the impact of coronavirus pandemic. As of 2021, India was the world's second-largest steel producing nation.
