The total volume of alloy steel and stainless steel imported by India at the end of the year 2022 accounted for around 2.6 million metric tons. This import volume was increased comparing to previous years. The government of India had set-up a steel import monitoring system, which provided granular level data. This helped the government and Indian steel industry to reduce import dependency and protect and nurture the Indian steel industry.
