In financial year 2024, the share of public telephone connections in India was just above eight percent of the total connections. The private sector, however, accounted for close to 92 percent of the telephone connection for the same year. With a constant increase in the number of telephone subscriptions, the Indian telecom network is the second-largest telecommunications market with about 1.2 billion subscribers.
