In 2022, the payload-distance of air freight transported on Japan's trunk lines amounted to around 477.9 million ton-kilometers. Apart from freight transportation on passenger flights, major Japanese airlines operating cargo-specific aircraft on domestic routes include All Nippon Airways and Nippon Cargo Airlines.
