Oceans played an important role in the absorption of excess heat , which has increased largely due to carbon dioxide emissions. The Earth's oceans are estimated to absorb and store around 93 percent of the world's heat, which raises ocean temperatures and accelerates the retreat of glaciers and ice sheets, both of which contribute to sea level rise.
