According to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in Japan in 2022, more than half of the respondents purchased smartwatches or fitness or activity trackers in order to monitor and improve their state of health. It was by far the most common purchase reason. Almost a third of the respondents stated that they wanted to have an easier accessibility compared to using a smartphone.
