According to a survey by Rakuten Insight, 31 percent of the respondents stated that they owned a smartwatch while 51 percent of the respondents did not own a smartwatch or wearable fitness or activity tracker. In terms of motivation, the majority of respondents claimed that they were concerned about their health and would like to monitor and improve it by using wearable tech.

The survey was conducted among 8,766 female and 4,632 male respondents. Other surveyed countries included China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
