Danske Bank was by far the largest bank in Denmark in 2023, with total assets amounting to roughly 3.77 billion Danish kroners. Despite its dominance in Denmark, Danske Bank's assets dropped for the third consecutive year in 2023. Jyske Bank ranked second, with roughly 780 billion Danish kroners on its balance sheet. 

Leading banks for large corporations

In 2024, Danske Bank maintained a strong position among large corporations in Denmark, with an 84 percent market penetration rate. This performance placed it on par with Nordea and notably ahead of SEB, which ranked third in the market.

Banks in Denmark

Denmark experienced a significant decline in the number of banks over the past decade. In 2008, the country had 150 banks, which dropped below 100 by 2017 and continued to decrease in subsequent years. This consolidation trend extended beyond Denmark, reflecting a broader pattern of reduction in banks and credit institutions across the euro area.
