In 2015, China's sex ratio at birth dropped to 114.8 boys to 100 girls in rural regions, approximately 2.5 boys more than the urban area. As Chinese families generally favored sons over daughters, aborting female infants was common under the one-child policy. The policy was replaced by a universal two-child policy in 2015. The sex ratio in China remained stable at around 105 males to 100 females.
