As of September 15, 2023, China had accumulated 47 Olympic gold medals of all time in the diving discipline. Weightlifting followed with 38 and gymnastics with 33 gold medals. To improve the underperforming disciplines, such as swimming and rowing, China has implemented different programs and has been providing financial support to its athletes for years. In 2012, Sun Yang brought the first Olympic gold medal in swimming to China.
