According to a survey on substance use in India between December 2017 and October 2018, it was found that amongst the people who were seeking help for their substance addiction, only 21 percent of alcoholics were hospitalized, while 79 percent received other forms of treatment like spiritual or religious help, or help from a non-governmental organization. However, for drug addiction, around 44 percent of dependents stated they received in-patient hospital treatment.

Other treatments included spiritual or religious help, government doctor or health facility, or help through an NGO.
