In April 2021, Hong Kong's high-speed railway received no passengers. The Hong Kong government invested over ten billion U.S. dollars in this controversial infrastructure. The rail link, set to operate at the end of September in 2018, was expected to serve over 80 thousand passengers daily. The number dropped to zero after the outbreak of coronavirus due to suspension of service.
