Attendance at rugby Top League games Japan FY 2014-2021
In the fiscal year 2021, about 250 thousand people attended rugby Top League games in Japan. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the figures declined significantly compared to pre-pandemic years. Significant growth in the number from 2014 to 2015 was attributed to the success of the Japanese national rugby team at the Rugby World Cup 2015. The Rugby Top League is the highest-level competition in the country. It is an industrial league, in which most of the players are also employees of the companies owning the teams.
