In 2018, it was found that around 4.9 percent of inhabitants in Mexico who spoke an indigenous language were considered neither poor nor vulnerable, while the share among non-indigenous language speakers reached 23.1 percent. This means that indigenous language speakers in Mexico are more likely to face poverty and other social deprivations than non-indigenous language speakers.
