In 2018, nearly 1.3 million indigenous language speakers in Mexico were considered socially vulnerable, while the number of people who did not speak an indigenous language and were also estimated to be in a socially vulnerable situation stood at 34.1 million. This number has been rising in both demographic groups since 2016.
