Salsa verde was the preferred salsa by participants in a Mexican survey in 2017, with 30.4 percent of respondents choosing salsa verde as their favorite Mexican salsa. Salsa de jitomate/tomate was also popular, with more than 26 percent of respondents preferring it over other sauces. In 2016, retail sales of sauces, dressings and condiments in Mexico amounted to almost three billion U.S. dollars.
