In 2019, local consumer affair centers received over 6.8 thousand inquiries related to natural disasters. While the surge in 2011 can be attributed to the Great East Japan Earthquake that subsequently led to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident, the rise in 2016 was partly due to the Kumamoto earthquake. In 2019, several natural disasters occurred in Japan, such as the typhoon Hagibis in October.
