In 2024, the total energy subsidies in Indonesia were targeted at 186.9 trillion Indonesian rupiah and about 60 percent of the energy subsidies in Indonesia derived from fossil fuel subsidies. Indonesia remains to subsidize fossil fuels such as diesel, kerosene, LPG, and coal-fired electricity. For Indonesia to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030, the National Planning and Development Agency (BAPPENAS) has already proposed for a 100 percent reduction in fuel subsidies which will be coupled with a carbon tax.
