Hotels located in the city of São Paulo, Brazil registered a strong drop in the occupancy rate during the first half of 2020. In March of that year, room occupancy in accommodation establishments in that Brazilian city rated 39.7 percent, down from 60.6 percent in the previous month. In April, only 5.8 percent of hotel rooms in São Paulo were occupied. From May to November of that year, the city recorded slight increases, though still registering rates of under 35 percent.
These changes in hotel occupancy in the city of São Paulo are associated to the global restrictions on travel and tourism resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
