According to a survey conducted by Ipsos in June 2019, around 51 percent of Malaysian respondents agreed that social media platforms were the best and most accurate sources of news and information, with
ten percent strongly agreeing with this statement.
The background of the survey was a temporary social media ban by the government in Sri Lanka in April 2019 in the wake of a fatal terrorist attack.
