Main types of health insurance in Mexico 2021

According to a survey carried out in 2021, most people in Mexico were public health insured. More than half of the Mexican population were covered by public health programs and were not affiliated to the country's social security institutions or private insurances, while around 38 percent were insured with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). In that year, four in ten respondents who had no health insurance and made use of medical services attended a private health care facility for medical attention.
