In 2018, around 71.7 million people in Mexico lacked access to social security and were therefore regarded as socially vulnerable. Of these, almost 10.5 million resided in the homonymous state of Mexico. Veracruz was the Mexican state with the second highest number of population without access to social security, amounting to over 5.5 million.
