In 2018, the area illegally cultivated with coca in the Putumayo-Caquetá region of Colombia decreased in comparison to the previous year, reaching nearly 38.2 thousand hectares. That area had increased by almost 250 percent in the period between 2013 and 2017. As of 2018, Putumayo-Caquetá had the third largest area of illegal coca cultivation in the country.
