In a 2018 survey about unsolicited phone calls, 41 percent of respondents stated that they were able to identify the call as a scam call as the caller seemed implausible or had a story that just did not add up. Additionally, 29 percent stated that the heavy accent or poor English of the caller gave it away as a scam call.
