According to the results of a survey by Ipsos, about 65 percent of Indians agreed that the national military should always prioritize civilian lives and follow the rules of warfare ahead of the country's interests. On the contrary, only 13 percent seemed to disagree with the statement.

The question asked in the survey was as follows: "To what extent, if at all, do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The Indian military should always put avoiding civilian casualties and following the rules of warfare ahead of the Indian national interest?"
According to the source, respondents were more urban and educated, with higher incomes than their fellow citizens, referred to as "Upper Deck Consumer Citizens". They were not nationally representative of their country.
