According to a survey conducted by Ipsos in May 2019, the majority of Japanese respondents felt that security benefits should be prioritized by Japan's political leaders when deciding on relations with foreign countries. Economic benefits, which was the favored aspect among most other surveyed countries, ranked second as a desired priority in foreign relations.
