According to a survey conducted by Ipsos in June 2019, around 35 percent of Japanese respondents agreed that social media platforms are the best and most accurate source of news and information, with only two percent strongly agreeing to the statement.
The background of the survey was a temporary social media ban by the government in Sri Lanka in April 2019 in the wake of a fatal terrorist attack.
