The Macklowe Collection is one of the most important collections in the art market, comprising 65 works by artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. On November 15, 2021, auction house Sotheby's offered 35 lots from the collection on an evening sale in New York, while a second sale was scheduled for May 16, 2022. Ultimately, every single lot in the November and May auction sales was purchased, leading to a so-called "white glove sale", generating a combine revenue of around 922 million U.S. dollars. A painting by Mark Rothko titled "No.7" recorded the highest sale price of the two auctions, being sold for nearly 82.5 million U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, another important art collection, the Cox Collection, was sold by auction house Christie's in New York in November 2021.
